Mobile Legends Map and Objectives: Lanes, Turtle and Lord Guide

The most common mistake new Mobile Legends: Bang Bang players make is thinking a fight is only about hero abilities. In this 5v5 MOBA, matches are mostly decided by map objectives: who stands in which lane, when the Turtle spawns and which team gets the Lord change the flow of the game. In this guide we explain the basics of the map, how roles are spread across the lanes and the two big objectives, the Turtle and the Lord, minute by minute.

The Map: Three Lanes and the Jungle

The map has three main lanes between the two bases: the EXP lane, the mid lane and the gold lane. The area between the lanes is the jungle; it holds neutral monsters, and the jungler farms gold and experience from them. The river that separates the sides is where big objectives such as the Turtle and the Lord spawn. Each lane has a series of towers, and the goal is to take them down and destroy the crystal in the enemy base. Minions spawn at regular intervals in every lane and towers attack them first, so killing minions means both gold and lane control.

Roles and Lane Assignments

Heroes fall into six main roles: Tank, Fighter, Assassin, Mage, Marksman and Support. At the start of a match the five players split across the lanes and the jungle like this, although there is no fixed rule and it can change with team composition:

  • EXP lane: A single-player lane. Usually a Fighter or a sturdy Tank stands here; the aim is to get ahead in experience and reach team fights in time.
  • Mid lane: Usually a Mage. Because it sits in the middle of the map, help can reach both lanes and the jungle quickly.
  • Gold lane: Two players: mostly a Marksman with a Tank or Support beside them. The Marksman deals the most damage in the late game, which is why this lane protects them.
  • Jungle: Mostly an Assassin or a Fighter. The jungler picks the "Retribution" spell to clear monsters faster and becomes the team's key to stealing big objectives.

Besides roles there is also the idea of "roaming": instead of waiting in a lane, a player moves around the map to help other lanes. Support and Tank players take on this job especially often.

The Turtle: The First Big Objective

The Turtle spawns in the river at the 2:00 mark of the game; its first spawn is near the EXP lane and later spawns appear in random positions in the river pits. About two minutes after it is killed it comes back, and after the 8-minute mark it no longer appears. The reward is gold and experience for the whole team that kills it. The player who lands the final blow also gets a shield and a short power boost, while teammates receive a weaker one-time shield.

The Turtle often looks like the jungler's job, but the real winner is the side that arrives at the fight prepared as a team. Tracking the enemy jungler on the minimap and pushing your lane minions before the objective spawns lets you enter the fight stronger.

The Lord: The Objective That Pushes a Lane

The Lord spawns at the 8-minute mark, right when the Turtle stops appearing. The team that kills it brings the Lord to its side; the Lord picks a lane and starts destroying towers, forcing the opponent to defend. A Lord taken at the right moment can create enough pressure to end a match in a few minutes. It respawns every few minutes, so you will face it more than once per match.

The point to watch is to check whether the enemies are dead before you hit the Lord. If the enemy team is alive, trying to take the Lord more often than not means losing the fight instead of stealing the objective.

A Practical Plan

  1. 0:00–2:00: Go to your lane, kill minions and buy your gear on the first recall.
  2. 2:00–8:00: Fight for the Turtle. While the jungler and the roamer approach the river, lane players keep the minions close to the tower.
  3. After 8:00: The moment you win a team fight, take the Lord, push down the same lane as the Lord and destroy the towers.

Timings and rewards can be adjusted by patches; we recommend checking the in-game help screen and official announcements for current values.

Conclusion

Winning in Mobile Legends takes more than picking a good hero: knowing the lane assignments, tracking the timing of the Turtle and the Lord and building lane pressure before an objective decide how a match goes.
