Dota 2 Patch 7.41 and the Current Meta: Facets Removed, New Items and TI 2026

Dota 2 in 2026: Patch 7.41, the Great Reset, and Where the Meta Stands

Dota 2 went through one of the biggest structural changes in its history this year. Patch 7.41, released on 24 March 2026, was nicknamed the "Great Reset" because it stripped out complexity that had built up over the previous two years instead of simply adjusting numbers.

Patch 7.41: Facets Are Gone

The headline change is that Facets were removed from the game entirely. Introduced in 7.36, they were meant to give every hero at least two viable build paths, but in practice one option was almost always strictly better. Valve spent roughly 22 months tuning them — nearly every letter patch from 7.36b through 7.40 contained Facet adjustments — before deciding to cut the system.

Innate abilities changed alongside them. They no longer scale with the levels of other abilities; instead they either grant a fixed bonus or improve as your hero levels up.

Item and Map Changes

  • Nine new items were added and the shop categories were rearranged.
  • Refresher Orb and Refresher Shard no longer reset item cooldowns — they refresh hero ability cooldowns only.
  • Tier 1 neutral items now become available at 0:00.
  • Health Restoration was reworked to affect every form of life gain, which indirectly buffed anti-heal items such as Spirit Vessel.
  • Invoker now picks one of three upgrades when buying Aghanim's Scepter or Shard, replacing what used to be handled by his Facets.

Heroes to Watch

Largo, the strength support added in patch 7.40 in December 2025, entered Captains Mode with 7.41 and immediately became one of the strongest picks in the game — he was contested in every single game at PGL Wallachia Season 7. His rune-pulling first ability, Catchy Lick, and his ultimate, Bullbelly Blitz, make him unusually flexible for a support.

The mid-game scaling changes also mean teams can no longer park behind a single super-carry until the 40-minute mark; more active, brawling line-ups are rewarded instead.

After 7.41: The Follow-Up Patches

Valve followed the main patch with several cleanup releases. 7.41b and 7.41c fixed critical exploits and ability interactions, 7.41d in June 2026 settled the competitive meta, and 7.41e arrived on 30 July 2026 alongside the "Summer Scrub" — a large batch of features and bug fixes shipped together with The International content.

The International 2026

The International returns in August 2026 in Shanghai, with ticket sales having opened on 10 June. The 7.41e client update added the usual TI companion features: predictions, fantasy, supporter bundles, new Immortals and unlockable terrain.

FAQ

What is the current Dota 2 patch?

7.41e, released on 30 July 2026, is the most recent gameplay patch in the 7.41 line.

Why were Facets removed?

Because one Facet was almost always strictly better than the alternatives, so the system added complexity without adding real choice.

Do Innate abilities still exist?

Yes. They remain in the game but now give fixed bonuses or scale with hero level instead of with other abilities.

Where is The International 2026 held?

In Shanghai, in August 2026.
