Are the modded 96 GB VRAM RTX 5090 cards usable for anything but AI work?

I keep seeing these modified cards with far more memory than the retail version. For gaming they look pointless, but I wonder if anyone here has actually used one for local model work or heavy 3D scenes.

What are the real downsides in practice — driver support, warranty, thermals, resale? Curious whether it is a novelty or genuinely useful.
